Swim Lessons FAQs:

When is the right age to start swim lessons for my child?

We suggest starting swim lessons when your child is between 6 months to 2 years old. Beginning swim lessons at 6 months old can offer numerous advantages. In addition to acquiring essential water safety and lifesaving skills, your child can build confidence and ease in the water, which can lead to improved safety and responsiveness in and around water.

What kinds of swim lessons do we offer?

We provide a range of swim lessons for various age groups and skill levels, including parent-child lessons, infant lessons, learn-to-swim programs, as well as stroke correction and technique training for all ages.

What are Parent-Child Swim Lessons?

Parent-Child Swim Lessons are designed for parents to join their children in the water. The main focus of this class is to prepare your child for swimming and swim lessons with an instructor by introducing them to the water, teaching them to hold their breath and submerge, and familiarizing them with the structure of a swim class. We also teach parents how to properly hold their child in the water, so they can continue practicing swimming outside of class consistently.

Our instructors use fun songs and games to make the experience enjoyable for your child. While this class is intended for children between 6 months to 1.5 years old, we accept older children who are new to lessons that may require additional support from their parents.

As part of our Parent-Child Swim Lessons, we also offer CPR exposure classes for parents. This is not a CPR certification class, but it covers essential information on how to assist your child in the event of choking or a drowning emergency. We believe in emphasizing all aspects of water safety and prevention, and we find that parents appreciate this "CPR Refresher" lesson, which equips them with emergency response tools.

How Many Swim Lessons Should You Take in a Week and How Long Should You Take Them for?

We recommend taking swim lessons for a minimum of 2-4 weeks. If you prefer a shorter session, such as a 2-week program, we suggest scheduling 4-5 lessons per week to make the most out of each lesson.

For those planning to take swim lessons throughout the entire summer (8-10 weeks), we suggest 1-3 lessons per week, depending on your personal goals and current level. Once you fill out our swim lessons request form, we can provide specific recommendations on the optimal number of lessons per week to help reach your goals this summer.

Do You Offer Swim Lessons for Individuals with Special Needs?

Yes, we do. Our instructors have experience teaching both children and adults with Autism and Down syndrome. We also have training to teach individuals with other disabilities. So, if you or your loved one have special needs, please reach out to us. We would love to discuss how we can help and determine if our program is the right fit.

Where did the name High Tide Swimming come from?

At High Tide, we aim to revolutionize the emotions surrounding swim lessons by embracing the metaphorical concept of "High Tide," which represents the pinnacle of success, opportunity, and hope. Our goal is to instill hope and excitement in our clients, encouraging them to take advantage of the opportunity to learn how to swim and become strong swimmers. While safety around water is the primary reason for swim lessons, we recognize that fear often accompanies the process, and we work to change that. As a state with a high number of drowning incidents, we understand the importance of teaching life-saving skills to prevent tragedies and keep our children safe. However, at High Tide, we also believe that swimming can offer so much more beyond safety. It can open doors to adventure and fun, from pool parties to beach trips, snorkeling, water parks, and even competitive swimming. Our instructors' love for the water has impacted their lives, and we aim to share that love with others by teaching them how to swim. Ultimately, our aim is to evoke positive feelings and memories of beach trips, reminding our clients of the joy and adventure that swimming can bring into their lives, and to inspire them to reach their full potential and experience a lifetime of adventure and joy in the water.
